In film este vorba despre un pusti pe nume Max care este neastamparat si nu isi asculta parintii. Datorita prostiilor pe care le facuse Max este trimis intr-o seara la culcare fara sa manance. Ajuns in pat Max imaginatia lui prinde aripi si ii permite sa evdeze intr-o padure. El paseste intr-o lume de monstri si devine regele padurii fiind numit “Regele Lucrurilor Salbatice”.

Oraselul Chewandswallow (sau pe intelesul nostru MestecaSiInghite) este un orasel obisnuit ca alte orase, dar aici cand ploua sau ninge nu cade apa sau fulgi de nea, ci ploua cu suc si ninge cu fulgi de cartofi. Acest orasel este asa datorita unui savat care din apa sa faca mancare si din sobolanii simpli face sobolani cu aripi.
Orasul are ceva probleme cand incep sa pice portii de mancare din ce in ce mai mari, iar savantul trebuie sa rezolve problemele.
